Other noteworthy designs/inspirations for the traditional costumes are the following:
The Spanish inspired Filipiñana dress.
Bb. no. 33 Kristi Cequeña
The black details on the fiery red dress is truly eye catching. The neck piece and the monton de Manila scarf adds that authentic Spanish flavor. Ole ole!!!
Bb. no. 34 Gabriela Ortega
Gabriela is half Spanish so its just befitting she wears this Spanish inspired flamenco dress. The multilayered sleeves and skirt with rich embroidery displays the beauty in Filipino craftsmanship.
The Maranao inspired costume
Bb. no. 22 Chanel Olive Thomas
With all the ternos and other Spanish inspired dresses, this Maranao princess costume is a breath of fresh air. The rich details in red and gold showcases the rich culture of our brothers in Mindanao. The head dress, the fans and the veil, together with the intricate beadworks on the dress displays true Filipina royalty. Chanel Olive Thomas looks every inch a Muslim princess.
The Virgin Mary inspired costume
Bb. no. 32 Charmaine Elima
It may be a little bit too much, but the details and craftsmanship is just wow. The lovely face of Charmaine perfectly compliments the gown. Ethereal and classic.
The non traditional costumes
Costumes with inspirations from other sources.
Bb. no. 11 Kimberly Pajares
The skirt's fabric and the headpiece's beads may be T'boli, but the entire look is definitely not Filipino. No Filipino tribes has ever worn costumes depicted by this ensemble. Gorgeous as it may be, this is pure fiction.
Bb. no. 20 Christagale Borja
Another costume coming from an over creative mind. The details and the colors are just wow. Unfortunately, I don't see anything Filipino in it. Mexican perhaps?
Bb. no. 13 Sirene Sutton
A modern twist on the Philippine terno. The look is very avant garde. Perfect for Sirene who is a professional model. This one would be perfect for awards night or the SONA, but probably not for a National costume.
Other noteworthy dresses and presentation are:
Bb. no. 28 Juliana Kapeundi
This silver pastillas inspired ball gown is Santa Cruzan raedy. Flores the mayo is just around the corner. Let Juliana's sweet angelic face charm your heart to the festivities of May.
Bb. no. 31 Katarina Rodriguez
Katarina is undeniably the face of the competition. The gown in itself is also unspeakably amazing.
The pastel blue beads on the creme colored gown is relaxing to the eye. The whole picture is love, love, love.
So there goes my Bb. Pilipinas 2017 National costume review. Do you share the same insights? Who are your favorites?
